Mashpee Town Hall reopened to the public on Tuesday, June 1, for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic prompted the building to close more than a year ago on March 23, 2020.
A steady flow of residents filtered in and out of the building around noon on Tuesday, purchasing beach and transfer stickers and attending to business in-person as town staff worked in their various departments.
âOverall, I ve been very pleased with the way staff and, for that matter, the public have been able to adjust to life as it has been for the past year and a half,â Town Manager Rodney C. Collins said. âWe dealt with it, we adjusted to it, and I appreciate the patience with staff as well as the public.â

The Mashpee Board of Selectmen voted unanimously during its virtual meeting on Monday, April 12, to form an ad hoc committee to review the issue of violence and abuse against women in the community.
Murylo Batista, a Mashpee resident and public health researcher, told the selectmen at their meeting that âfour homicides in the past year of Mashpee women or of women in Mashpee has shown that the safety and well-being of women are being jeopardized in our town.â
âWe cannot approach the problem of violence from the perspective of failureâthat we, Mashpee, failed somehowâbecause it extenuates feelings of blame and guilt which are not useful or relevant for building solutions,â Mr. Batista said. âPersonally Iâm not okay living in a world where our mothers, our sisters and our daughters are not safe, so today I invite the board of selectmen, the town administrators and the residents of Mashpee in declaring that violence has no place at home.â
