Dozens gathered at the African Burying Ground Memorial in Portsmouth Sunday afternoon to show their support for a man who said he was assaulted in a racially motivated attack last month.

"The words used by my attacker leave no doubt that this was a racist act," Mamadou Dembele, a local bank VP, says. "I am choosing to not be silent.”

“Mr. Dembele’s assault is not so very unusual for a Black man who lives in New Hampshire,” said Rev. Bob Thompson, president of the Seacoast NAACP.
