First, Malaysia’s front-liners have a world-class commitment to this fight.
Second, under-resourcing of healthcare has been exposed to public scrutiny and concern.
Third, the relationship between the public and private sectors has fallen short of expectations and the leaders have resorted to public bickering in the midst of a global health crisis.
Malaysia needs and deserves a world-class universal healthcare system, which should provide comprehensive, high-quality treatment, free of charge at the point of need to everyone who needs it, when they need it.
Currently the funding, management and governance of healthcare in Malaysia is not fit-for-purpose in delivering this aim.

PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Medical Council (MMC) will represent Malaysia in obtaining World Federation of Medical Education (WFME) recognition status, said Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba (pix).
He said the matter was agreed in the Cabinet meeting following the announcement by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) on Sept 21, 2010 that effective 2023, those applying for the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USLME) must be medical graduates from WFME-recognised countries.
According to him, medical graduates from 35 local undergraduate medical programmes that have been accredited by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) and the Malaysian Examinations Council (MPM) will not have the opportunity to gain advanced clinical experience in the United States if Malaysia is not listed in the WFME recognition programme.
So you have decided to move into private practice.
Unlike government service where there is always an overflow of patients, in the private sector, you will have to compete for your patients.
But how are you going to persuade the public to consult you in preference to your colleagues?
At medical school, you were never taught about the economics of medicine nor marketing for patients.
In fact, talking about money in the medical field is abhorred.
“You go into medicine because you want to help people, not to make money” – that is society’s expectation of doctors.
After graduation, you work as a houseman for two years.
Options for medical education MSU’s MBBS programme presents a continually expanding level of medical experiences.
THE name Management and Science University (MSU) has become synonymous with quality education that is both transformative and enriching. Making an impact in Malaysia, Asia, and the rest of the world, MSU’s involvement in medical education compliments both the nation’s and regional healthcare system’s need for qualified medical personnel.
The Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) is a five-year programme offered through the International Medical School (IMS) at the MSU main campus in Shah Alam and its off-shore campus in Bangalore, India, which is Malaysia’s first medical school to receive a five-year accreditation from the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC). In addition, MSU’s MBBS programme is recognised by the Medical Council of India (MCI), Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC) and Maldives Medical and Dental Council (MMDC).
