A Portsmouth police detective testified Monday that he and other officers in unmarked cars began following a stolen vehicle that had been involved in a carjacking in Portsmouth as it drove into a Norfolk cemetery. The officers were attempting to stop the car when the driver, Malachi Elliot, drove toward them, he said.
Malachi Elliot was shot six times by Portsmouth police after detectives said he drove a stolen vehicle in their direction. Elliot has since been released from the hospital and a family member said he didn't try to hurt officers.
