the epa. is flat out wrong. and this is court that is disconnected and really is ago gaiting to itself power and taking it away from democratic decision making. a crisis of legitimacy or just unpopular? legitimacy. a time courts can make decisions as a check on majority power. this is a court that has totally been oblivious to any sense of public sentiment in modern life. oblivious taking away freedoms of roe v. wade. oblivious when it comes to talking about possibly taking away the right for gay marriage. possibly justice thomas writing about the right for contraception. i have come out for term limits. and the president s commission suggested term limits. why should people who are appointed 40 years ago be making decisions today? for our democracy.
is trying to do is we ve got to bring the conversation to the table. this has got to change. we need to pass things for the american people. it s getting frustrating. and if this happens, that is something both republicans and democrats are going to use for their benefit when they are in power. but that s only for the american people. but we at least need to have a conversation. you would think you d want to get rid of the filibuster particularly because he was such an institutionalist. the filibuster is there because it is not that congress can t get things done. you don t want a simple majority passing everything all the time. you want to make sure that certain changes to our laws are supported by two-thirds in the senate. when they want to get out of the filibuster, what they are really saying is the majority power wants to just shove everything through congress as quick as
fully alarmed by donald trump. you know, ali, i find this moment so fascinating. because republicans are in cold and sweat over his claim the other day about keeping people from going to the polls. why? because it is a complete reprise of what donald trump accidentally did in 2020. there were run-offs in georgia, determining who would hold the majority in senate. mitch mcconnell was nervous about the president consistently challenging whether or not it was worth going to the polls in january. whether the fraud was so rife, whether his republican supporters should even go. what was the result? exactly what gave mcconnell the sweats then. he lost the majority power of that senate. here, the president is now
is there something the federal government could do to stop this? actually joy in the freedom to vote act there is a ban on partisan gerrymandering. there is an explicit ban on party gerrymandering, a strong one that said if you jerry manderred before and this act is passed, it does not matter. you cannot seek a delegation put in place as a result of partisan gerrymandering. that s one more reason why the freedom to vote act has to be passed. it s one more reasons why democrats have to really save our democracy because that s the issue here. we can talk about a specific issue, you know, infrastructure or whatever, but the biggest issue for this country right now is the nature of our system of government. republicans have made themselves quite comfortable with the notion they ll be a minority party to exercise majority power. they are in essence trying to create a political political apartide system they ll get fewer votes at every level and
