The Tamil Nadu election did not throw a surprising result, as the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam was largely expected to win against the beleaguered and divided All India Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam . The DMK commanded over a larger alliance of parties, had a comparatively smoother transition of power after the death in 2018 of its historical leader, M Karunanidhi, and led a disciplined campaign that mixed regional and national themes.

The Pattali Makkal Katchi, which fought the 2021 Assembly election in alliance with the AIADMK, reversed its electoral fortunes and established leads in Pennagaram (9,890 votes), Dharmapuri (15,852 votes), Salem West (13,218 votes) and Mailam (780 votes), while fighting a close contest in Jayamkondan and Vridhachalam in a see-saw battle on Sunday, at the time of going to print.

Elaborate arrangements have been put in place for counting of votes polled in nine assembly constituencies across four counting centres in Cuddalore district on May 2. Counting of votes polled in Cuddalore and Kurunjipadi would be taken up at the Government Periyar Arts College, Cuddalore, while votes polled in Thittakudi (Reserved) and Vriddhachalam assembly constituencies would be counted at Kolanjiappar Arts College at Vriddhachalam.

Haritha Karma Sena earns ₹3.7 lakh through sale of shredded plastic in Vadakara
The Hariyali Haritha Karma Sena of Vadakara Municipality earned around ₹3.7 lakh in 2020-21 through the sale of shredded plastic used for road tarring. The women who are part of the Sena can differentiate between around 30 different varieties of plastic and segregate waste accordingly.
P. Prakashan, district coordinator of Haritha Keralam Mission (HKM), lauded the change brought in by the group of 63 women in just a few years, which led to the municipality winning several awards for waste management.
