Prime Minister Narendra Modi had the North East in his heart and so brought a flood of development in the region ending an era of insurgency, bandhs and road blockades, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Sunday.
“The BJP government under Modi has given a new identity to the region which is now experiencing a new thrust in development,” Shah said at the inauguration and foundation laying programme of several projects at Hapta Kangjeibung here.
A 23-member delegation of the United Peoples Party Liberal-BJP-Gana Suraksha Party combine will also meet him to discuss various issues, Sarma said. Delegations of the BJP s ruling alliance partner, Asom Gana Parishad and the Joint Coordination Committee of the Rabhas and representatives of the Gana Shakti Party are also scheduled to meet the Union Home Minister, Sarma said.
Amit Shah to flag-off several govt schemes in Assam
Amit Shah s official programme in Assam includes laying the foundation stone of the Rs 186 crore beautification programme of the birthplace of Vaishnav saint Srimanta Sankardeva at Batadrava in central Assam.
Sarma said that the land surrounding the sattra (Vaishnav monastery) has been freed of encroachers and the state government wants to develop it on the lines of Amritsar s Golden Temple.

GUWAHATI: Union home minister Amit Shah, who will visit the state on December 26, will launch the renovation work of the 15th century Batadrava Than in Nagaon district, the first prayer hall built by Vaishnavite saint Srimanta Sankardev, and lay the foundation for the construction of the northeast’s biggest medical college and hospital here.
Shah will also launch the construction work for 10 law colleges in the state from the same venue at Amingaon on the north of Guwahati.
The saint, who brought together the numerous communities and tribes of Assam, had established the ‘kirtanghar’ at Batadrava in 1468. The complex, called as Sri Sri Batadrava Than, was completed in 1509.
