Crime Branch of Mumbai police on Thursday arrested Vinay Singh, an absconding accused in an extortion case involving former Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh, informed Mumbai police.
Mumbai City Sessions Court on Wednesday rejected the bail plea of police officers Nandkumar Gopale and Asha Korke, who were arrested in connection with the extortion case involving former Mumbai Police commissioner Param Bir Singh.
A Bench headed by Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul has although allowed Maharashtra police to continue its probe and asked the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to file an affidavit within one week stating its stand on taking up the investigation in the FIRs registered by Maharashtra Police against Singh.
The Supreme Court on Monday directed the Maharashtra police not to file charge sheets in the FIRs lodged against the former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh and has also sought CBI s view on taking over the investigation.
Mumbai s Esplanade Court on Thursday cancelled its proclamation offender order against former police commissioner Param Bir Singh in the Marine Drive extortion case.
