Police said Sean Reed, 29, was arguing with a woman, 25, in a parking lot at a convenience store near Peoria Avenue and Black Canyon Highway on April 1. The security guard, 22, approached the couple and a fight occurred, police said. The security guard then shot Reed, who was hospitalized in extremely critical condition and later died, officials said.

Police arrested a woman who they say fatally hit a pedestrian with her vehicle and fled the scene on Sunday evening, according to officials. Officers responded to a report of a fatal hit-and-run of a pedestrian near Cave Creek and Sahuaro roads in Phoenix, police said.  Jackie Peloquin, 53, was walking across Cave Creek Road on an unmarked crosswalk with a shopping cart just before 8 p.m., when Melissa Truax, 43, struck her with a white 2006 Acura sedan while driving north on the same road, according to court documents.   Peloquin was hospitalized but later died from her injuries, police said.

Man who police say shot, wounded brother in Phoenix home is arrested

A teen boy is in the hospital with serious injuries after he was shot by his brother in west Phoenix early Thursday morning, police say. According to Sgt. Maggie Cox, Phoenix police spokeswoman, officers responded to calls of a shooting around 3 a.m. near 67th Avenue and McDowell Road.  When officers arrived, they found a 16-year-old boy with a gunshot wound. The Phoenix Fire Department took the man to the hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries, Cox said. His brother, later identified as 29-year-old Willie Jones , was still at the location and was detained by police, Cox said. Jones told police he accidently fired the gun while handling it. He was booked into jail on charges of aggravated assault and misconduct involving weapons.

Deer Valley district needs to do better with harassment allegations

A pair of Arizona state lawmakers is asking the Deer Valley Unified School District to please do better as police investigate allegations of sexual harassment at a district high school. State Rep. Shawnna Bolick and Sen. Nancy Barto, both Phoenix Republicans, sent a letter to district Superintendent Curtis Finch that said the district needs to thoroughly investigate the allegations, “carefully review” its sexual misconduct policies and seek input from victims’ rights organizations. The letter comes about a week after allegations by a former student about a Barry Goldwater High School English teacher gained attention on Twitter.
