Liberian women have begun a concerted effort aimed at supporting one another in legal battle surrounding election disputes arising from the recent senatorial election held on December 8, 2020. The latest support is going towards legal and logistical support for Madam Botoe Kanneh whom the NEC finally declared as the winner in the Gbarpolu Senatorial race, and Madam Edith Gongloe-Weh, who the NEC declared as one of the losers in Nimba County. Madam Weh has meanwhile raised the issue of fraud and irregularities.
The Liberian women’s resolve to stand by their embattled sisters on this tough political journey, mainly via post-election dispute resolution through the National Elections Commission (NEC) and the Supreme Court, seems to be beyond words.

MONROVIA – Ms. Botoe Kanneh – a commoner, a meat seller – who some may have considered as not having any class in politics – has proven to be very formidable in the almost all-male senatorial election but the fight to clip her wings continue to be waged and stalling her certification as winner of the election in Gbarpolu County.
But she is not the only female forcing a camel through the eye of a needle to add up to women’s representation in the Senate. Madam Edith Gongloe-Weh of Nimba County is also equally battling the ruling establishment to earn a seat in the upper house of the Legislature.

After days of speculation in media outlets that the National Port Authority (NPA) has paid or planning to pay the sum of US$40,000 to the National Elections Commission (NEC) for a recount in Rivercess County following a mandate from the Supreme Court, the Commission has rejected the report and said it is “Untrue” and that it has no business with NPA or any other entity to fund election processes except the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning (MFDP).
At a press conference held over the weekend at its headquarters in Monrovia, the NEC, through its chairperson, Davidetta Browne Lansanah, said it is the prerogative of the Ministry of Finance to fund all national elections through direct budgetary support or through partners of government.

Monrovia – Representative Edwin Melvin Snowe has assured the people of Bomi County that as he enters the Senate, he is going to be an advocate for them. The electorates of Bomi overwhelmingly voted for him.
He didn’t only promise the people of Bomi, Senator-elect Snowe also informed the Elections Commission that he is also going to advocate for it by ensuring that some of the elections laws are reviewed and that the Commission is supported in a timely manner through budgetary allocations.
