SOUTH Lakes Housing (SLH) has delivered 300 children s craft bags to their tenants across South Lakes. The bags have given the children some fun activities to do whilst we have been in lockdown and provided parents with some respite and alternative activities for their children. Traditionally SLH would organise community activities for children to take part in but unfortunately, over the past year this has not been possible due to coronavirus and they didn’t want the children to miss out on activities. Crafting can be incredibly powerful when it comes to tackling mental health issues and at the moment this has never been more important.

A STRING of community heroes who went the extra mile in recent months have been recognised by a housing association. Among the recipients of a Community Heroes Award from South Lakes Housing (SLH) were two women from Ulverston and one from Grange-over-Sands. The organisation wanted to recognise the people who had shown true community spirit and support throughout all their neighbourhoods. The 12 recipients included Caroline Smith-Dance and Megan Eccles, both of Ulverston. Ms Smith-Dance was a founder of the Ulverston Self-isolation Group set up on Facebook at the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic. A spokeswoman for SLH said she had been an absolute inspiration and continues to be generous to others – even buying people portions of fish and chips.
