LWF General Secretary reaches out to Malagasy Lutheran Church following tropical storms (LWI) - The Lutheran World Federation (LWF) General Secretary Rev. Anne Burghardt has assured the Malagasy Lutheran Church (MLC) of the communion’s solidarity and prayers amid destruction and loss of lives from recent tropical storms on Madagascar’s northern and southern regions.
The LWF and partner organizations working in Uganda are calling on the government of the East African nation to enact reforms and implement existing legislation on the protection of women in vulnerable refugee, host and post-conflict communities.
“The ‘Seeds of Hope’ project has given me the hope that we, as human beings, can change our attitudes and actions and transform our relationship with the environment and the earth,” said Izani Bruch, Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Chile (IELCH). The church’s climate project involved about 80 children, youth and adults.

Lilana Kasper recounts how chaplaincy with the South African Police Service and other rich pastoral experiences shaped her journey and prepared her for her current role as Executive Director of the Lutheran Communion in Southern Africa (LUCSA), the first woman to hold the office.
Through the LWF Rapid Response Fund, the communion was able to rally support and provide direct and indirect relief to congregations and local communities facing the unprecedented challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. “This stands out as an affirmation of the member churches’ and LWF’s partners’ shared solidarity and commitment to leave no one behind.”
