8 Guam youths in virtual exchange with students from Japan, California
Eight Guam youths got a glimpse into life in Japan and California through a virtual home stay exchange Saturday.
The Guam Nikkei Association for three years coordinated with the city of Okayama to send island students abroad and bring Japanese students here for a week, said Karl Sotto, Guam Nikkei Association president.
The pandemic delayed, and ultimately shifted, plans for the fourth annual exchange.
Instead of traveling, students participated in a virtual meeting, sharing presentations on life, culture and heritage in their respective regions, Sotto said. Students from San Jose, California; Okayama, Japan; and Guam were involved.
