Direct Highway from Port to I-49 Now Under Way
I avoid going to one of my favorite restaurants because it feels so far away. The Cajun Asian Restaurant is over by the port and in order to go eat there, I have to plan my entire day around it. It feels like I am making a trek into a land far far away. Everyone feels that way having to drive over by the port right?
According to KTBS 3 there is a brand new 10.5-mile stretch of highway that will give direct access from the Port to I-49, they are calling it the I-69 service road because the proposed project will basically run parallel to Interstate 69. If you think that this project, just like every other road project in Louisiana is something that will take several years to kick off, think again.

An article by TW Starr Timothy Magner provides an update on the I-49 Inner-City Connector Project that is expected soon for a record of decision, setting the stage for a showdown for groups on either side of the issue. The I-49 Inner City Connector will be a new interstate facility approximately 3.6 miles in length. It is proposed to intersect Shreveport in order to connect I-49 at the I-20 interchange with I-49 North in the vicinity of the I-220 interchange, according to the Northwest Louisiana Council of Governments website for the project.
SHREVEPORT, La. The I-49 Inner-City Connector has been discussed for decades and is expected to reach a whole new level of interest in 2021. As we near a record of decision, we thought it was important to build some enthusiasm and momentum in the community, said Timothy Magner, Greater Shreveport Chamber of Commerce president.

Advertising agencies are hired, media and awareness campaigns are starting as the record of decision nears and marks the final step on if and when the approximately 3.2-mile connector will be built and where. It will actually link I-10, I-20 and I-30 through Louisiana. That is a huge opportunity for us regionally as a transportation and distribution hub. It also opens up other parts of our downtown area to development, said Magner.
