Although this particular rancor revolved around the relatively routine move of picking leadership of the council, it’s part of a deeper conflict over council members’ support or opposition to Page’s reign especially when it comes to his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“It’s not necessary against the county executive,” said Councilwoman Rita Days, D-Bel Nor, who was most recently chosen to lead the council. “It’s against some of the policies and some of things that he’s put forth with no inclusion from the council. And I think that’s not a good way to govern. We have a legislative body. And that’s what they’re designed to do.”

After the extended holiday period, Ste. Genevieve’s elected officials and government workers have returned to matters at hand.
Last Thursday, the Ste. Genevieve Planning and Zoning Commission had its first meeting of the new year.

On Tuesday night, it was Ste. Genevieve Levee District No. 3’s turn for a meeting with the first board of aldermen meeting set for this coming Thursday.
Also, at the county level, Special Road District A met on Tuesday, and the city of Bloomsdale had its first regular meeting of 2021 as well.

A divided St. Louis County Council gave Chairwoman Lisa Clancy another year in her post Tuesday, amid an outcry over an outgoing lawmaker getting to vote on the matter instead of the person who defeated her last year.
Backers of the reelection of Clancy, an ally of St. Louis County Executive Sam Page, contend this unusual situation is an unintended, but required, consequence of a charter change. But three Page detractors say the election of new leadership was illegal and an undemocratic slap in the face to voters of the north St. Louis County-based 4th District.

St. Louis County Councilwoman-elect Shalonda Webb is the latest guest on Politically Speaking, where she talked with St. Louis Public Radio’s Jason Rosenbaum about her priorities for the north St. Louis County-based 4th District.
The Democrat won the race to represent the district in November. It includes municipalities like Florissant, Bellefontaine Neighbors and Black Jack, as well as unincorporated communities like Spanish Lake. She’ll take office in January.

Her Democratic primary win in August over incumbent Rochelle Walton Gray. That victory was tantamount to election, since the 4th District is overwhelmingly Democratic.
