'Potentially viable device' found in Fermanagh

Potentially viable device found in Fermanagh Updated / Wednesday, 17 Mar 2021 21:43 A potentially viable device has been found in Co Fermanagh following a security alert. Police described the discovery on the Lough Shore Path, in Enniskillen, as a reckless act by violent dissident republicans . Army bomb experts removed the device for further examination. Chief Superintendent Andy Freeburn, South Area Commander, said the pathway where the device was found is frequently used by members of the public, including people fishing, local boat owners, parents and children. I can confirm that this device was small and crude, but potentially viable, and it has been taken away for further examination, he said.

Mary O Hagan formed the group after noticing a demand for open water swimming. Reporter: );   ); A group of swimmers based in County Derry say taking to the open water has had a positive effect on their mental health and wellbeing throughout the Covid-19 pandemic. Ballyronan Bluetits are based in the Loughshore village, but attract swimmers from all around the shores of Lough Neagh and beyond. The group was formed in October 2020 by Mary O Hagan, whose enthusiasm for open water swimming is leading many others into taking the plunge.

LIFE IN LOCKDOWN: Dreaming of better days around the Loughshore

LIFE IN LOCKDOWN: Dreaming of better days around the Loughshore People in Ballyronan and The Loup are looking forward to being free from lockdown at some point. Reporter: );   ); A bitter wind rocks the car as I pull up alongside the Ballyronan Road. Four or five cars sit outside the Mace, with people darting in and out, grateful for the face mask taking the brunt of the breeze. Johnny Fox s bar sits invitingly beside the shop. An afternoon in there would take the edge off the weather, and probably the ever-lurking sense of Covid dread as well. Cars come and go from the Village Fuel Depot across the road, where an attendant moves in and out servicing those in need of a refill.

Students bring spirit of Christmas with carol service - The Fermanagh Herald

Students bring spirit of Christmas with carol service Posted: 2:13 pm December 18, 2020 SHARE THIS year due to COVID-19 restrictions Eniskillen Royal Grammar School is not able to join together in the beautiful surroundings of St Macartin’s Cathedral with the wider community for its annual Carol Services.   The school  wanted to find an alternative way of sharing the Christmas message, in a Virtual Carol Service.  This brought together the traditional Christmas readings, along with some traditional Christmas music, led by a socially distanced brass and woodwind ensemble, filmed in Portora Castle adjacent to our Lough Shore Site. As one Year 13 pupil commented, “It was really enjoyable to see everyone again and get playing together. It made me realise how much I’ve missed school ensembles and band and I really hope we can get back together soon.”
