Nearly an entire week has passed since the United Teachers of Los Angeles and the School District suddenly announced a new tentative agreement. But neither has yet to release any details.
This week, 30,000 classified workers in Los Angeles Unified School District are voting on a tentative agreement that fails to raise their pay and working conditions out of the poverty-level conditions that have prevailed for decades, following a three-day strike last month which shut down the nation’s second-largest school district.
That this deal has even been brought to a vote is a betrayal of the strike by 65,000 education which shut down the Los Angeles Unified School District for three days.
Last weekend, the United Teachers of Los Angeles (UTLA) and SEIU Local 99 education unions collectively representing more than 65,000 in the Los Angeles Unified School District, announced plans to launch a 3-day strike within the coming weeks.
