Instead of celebrating that milestone, Amy Baxter is spending the morning with Rep. Brian Ashe promoting a bill that would implement safety regulations for doggy day cares regulations that could have saved his life. There are no statewide regulations that dictate employee-to-dog ratios, emergency protocols or requirements to report pet-related injuries. Baxter learned that after Ollie was attacked by multiple dogs in October. He died on Nov. 28 from injuries related to the incident, but it was Baxter, not the pet day care owner, who reported the attack to local officials.

The Republican governor described the vaccine rollout, particularly in Phase 2, as “lumpy and bumpy” as he testified before the Joint Committee on COVID-19 and Emergency Preparedness and Management Thursday morning. “That’s what happens when people are doing something that’s never been done before,” Baker said. “To work through the issues that arose, our administration held regular briefings for legislators, local officials, boards of health and other interested parties, including provider organizations.”
