Leading The Way To Carbon-Free Generation, Long Ridge Energy Terminal To Add Hydrogen Fuel Capability
OVERLAND PARK, KAN. (BUSINESS WIRE)
With global energy solutions leader Black & Veatch as program manager, Ohio’s Long Ridge Energy Generation is retrofitting its 485-megawatt (MW) combined-cycle power plant to run on a blend of natural gas and carbon-free hydrogen, making it the nation’s first large gas turbine plant to transition operations to hydrogen fuel.
Long Ridge is working to reconfigure the plant to use a mix of natural gas and hydrogen – a rising star in power generation – after it begins commercial operations in August 2021. As the first worldwide plant to blend hydrogen in a General Electric H-class gas turbine, the Hannibal, Ohio-based site initially will burn 5 percent hydrogen by volume in the natural gas stream. The program is outlining the changes necessary to transition entirely to using 100 percent green hydrogen – produced by electrolysis that separ

PENN VALLEY, PA, US, February 10, 2021 /EINPresswire.com/ For nearly two decades, the world’s most abundant element has been looked upon as the “fuel of the future.”
The only problem has been, despite all its positives, the use of hydrogen for transportation, power generation, etc., has remained “in the future.”
Now it appears hydrogen’s future really is now. With numerous hydrogen-related projects underway or on the proverbial drawing board worldwide, two U.S. projects, in eastern Ohio and central Utah, are garnering tremendous interest.
Press Release Long Ridge Energy Terminal Partners with New Fortress Energy and GE to Transition Power Plant to Zero-Carbon Hydrogen October 13, 2020
HANNIBAL, OH (PRWEB) October 13, 2020 Long Ridge Energy Terminal (“Long Ridge”), located in Hannibal, Ohio, announced plans to transition its 485 MW combined-cycle power plant to run on carbon-free hydrogen. In collaboration with New Fortress Energy (“NFE”) and GE, Long Ridge intends to begin providing carbon-free power to customers as early as next year by blending hydrogen in the gas stream and transition the plant to be capable of burning 100% green hydrogen over the next decade.
With commercial operations planned for November 2021, Long Ridge will be the first purpose-built hydrogen-burning power plant in the United States and the first worldwide to blend hydrogen in a GE H-class gas turbine. The plant utilizes a GE 7HA.02 combustion turbine, which can burn between 15-20% hydrogen by volume in
