At a conference at Wood Pro Expo Florida on June 8, Snider and a panel of other cabinetmakers discussed how they re finding workers, issues affecting their supply chains, and other things. The session was moderated by the CMA s Amanda Conger. I look for employees on Craigslist, continued Snider. I want a complete beginner s mind.

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. How to develop quotes for projects that will help custom woodworkers boost orders and maximize profits is the thrust of FDMC Editor Will Sampson’s seminar scheduled for Wood Pro Expo Florida. Sampson will present, “Solving the Pricing Puzzle,” during the Wood Pro Conference track, June 8 at the Palm Beach County Convention Center.
During his presentation, Sampson will share the highlights and his personal insights of FDMC s annual Pricing Survey. He’ll examine what various shops charge for the same work, fundamentals of pricing custom work, and common pitfalls to avoid in the estimating process.

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. Popular FDMC columnist Gene Wengert, aka “The Wood Doctor,” will make a house call during the Wood Pro Conference.
Wengert, a renowned expert on all things wood, will present, The Wood Doctor is in, on June 8 at the Palm Beach County Convention Center. He will offer his prescriptions for resolving some of the industry’s most common, costly and yet preventable wood problems. This includes issues such as open glue joints, blotchy finishes and low lumber yield to name a few.
Wengert also plans to address the added stress the coronavirus pandemic has had on the lumber market, including erratic supplies, price spikes and impact on just-in-time inventories.
