Covid-19 claims another life at nursing home in Midlands with 85 positive cases

The Covid-19 death toll at a nursing home in the Midlands has tragically risen again on the day before vaccination begins at the facility.
Management at the Drominín Nursing Home in Stradbally in Laois has confirmed that a ninth person has succumbed to the virus on Wendesday morning, January 13.
Mr Gearóin Brennan, Chief Executive of the Brookhaven Healthcare Group that runs the home, confirmed the death in a statement which outlined the status of the outbreak
He said 50 residents are positive with the majority having no symptoms. A further six people are classed as not-detected / negative.

The vaccination of elderly people in long term care will begin in Laois at St Vincent s Community Nursing Unit in Mountmellick this week.
The HSE s Community Health Office for Laois has confirmed that vaccination will begin in Mountmellick this Friday, January 15.
The HSE run facility cares for around 80 long term care residents. It has a dedicated Alzheimers and dementia unit.
It follows the start of vaccination at several HSE long term care facilities around Ireland last week.
Kildare nursing home residents and staff to get Covid-19 vaccines today

Curragh Lawn Nursing Home between Newbridge and Kilcullen will be the first facility in Co Kildare to receive the Covid-19 vaccination today.
The Pfizer BioNTech vaccine arrived last night and was immediately placed in an ultra low temperature fridge.
The rollout of the vaccine will then continue to all nursing homes in the county as part of a nationwide programme.
The first batches of the arrived in Ireland on Stephen s Day and must be administered in two doses, a fortnight apart.
Longford nursing home residents to be vaccinated within weeks

With the number of cases rising dramatically in recent days, residents in Longford’s six nursing homes can expect to be vaccinated against Covid-19 in the coming weeks.
The Pfizer BioNTech vaccine is currently being rolled out across Ireland, starting with residents of the country’s 600 nursing homes.
A dedicated HSE team is expected to commence the vaccinatoin process in Longford from January 21, administering the jab to nearly 800 residents of an eight day period. The second dose will be administered three weeks later.
Local care homes have already received a draft date for their first vaccinations later this month and the second dose 21 days later.
Residents of Moorehall Lodge on the Dublin Road will be among the first group of nursing home residents in the region to receive the new COVID-19 vaccine.
They have been scheduled for January 15th. Aras Mhuire at Beechgrove, home to retired members of the Medical Missionaries of Mary are booked in for January 19th, along with the Boyne Valley nursing Home at Dowth. Vaccination of 70,000 nursing home residents and staff is to begin on January 11 and be completed by the end of February.
The vaccination teams will visit all the local nursing and hospital facilities to administer two doses over a six-week period. The dates are subject to change, depending on the roll out of the vaccine.
