Justine’s, the swinging French brasserie in East Austin and regular member of the Austin360 Dining Guide Top 50 restaurants in the city, has made a change at the top of its playbill. The restaurant from owners Pierre Pelegrin and Justine Gilcrease announced last week that a familiar face is returning to take control of the kitchen.
Chef
Justin Huffman, who spent much of the last four years working in California, has been named the executive chef at the restaurant that opened in 2009. The new position for Huffman completes an intermittent movement through the ranks at the restaurant that included time as sous chef and chef de cuisine.

In the male-dominated Nigerian music scene, Nissi Ogulu (Burnaboy’s sister) is not afraid to take up space, making room for the celebration of Black women’s natural beauty in all its shades and textures as the dynamite of a singer is all about female empowerment as seen in this perfectly sculpted visual for Move x2. Ferdinand Ekechukwu reports
Nissi Ogulu, simply known as Nissi, is gradually gaining public consciousness mainstream with her artistry. Her music encompasses a “nice spectrum of sound” as she blends both African and European influences. The cross-cultural influences of her sound trace the path she’s taken in life: Nissi was born into a highly creative family in Port Harcourt, Nigeria; her older brother is Burna Boy, real name Damini Ogulu and her maternal grandfather is Benson Idonije, a one-time manger to Afrobeat legend, Fela Kuti.

The team behind Victory Sandwich Bar, V.C.C. coffee, Little Trouble, and LLoydâs is opening a counter-service restaurant near SweetWater Brewing and East Pole Coffee. Located in Indie Studios off Ottley Drive, the still-to-be-named spot will be a mix of Victory and V.C.C., focusing on lunch, says Victory Brands partner Ian Jones.
âItâs Victory through the lens of a European cafe,â he says. âItâs a hair more polished than Victory. If Victory is skate-punk-garage-y, this is more Venice Beach.â
