The Martha s Vineyard Times Big plans, same ice cream at Mad Martha’s  50-year-old business changes hands; will offer flavors both familiar and new. Mad Martha s is under new ownership. A group of investors and Island businessmen are the new owners of the three Mad Martha’s Ice Cream stores, purchasing the 50-year-old frozen novelty business and buildings for a total of $8.2 million. The buyers are led by Brook Katzen, owner of Little House Cafe and Island Cove Adventures mini golf, and Jim Shane, a real estate developer and Edgartown resident. Katzen and Shane will work as business co-managers, with Katzen conducting general operations. Katzen’s role in the purchase was first reported by The Times in April.

Local Restaurants Welcome Full Capacity, but 6-Foot Spacing Makes It Impossible for Some; More Changes on the Way

Frutti di Mare at The Pasta House in Fairhaven. New state guidelines went into effect Monday allowing restaurants to serve at 100 percent capacity if they can keep tables six feet apart or separated by a barrier. At Pain D’Avignon in Hyannis, chief operating officer Mario Mariani said seating at full capacity still isn’t possible for his restaurant, but he’s glad to see things moving forward. “What changes is the attitude and the confidence of the dining public,” he said. “That, I welcome.” Restaurants can also have live music, if they’re willing to devote the space. Some say that won’t be practical until it can happen outdoors.
