Husky teams honored and Windsong residents speak out once again at Trussville City Council meeting

By Erica Thomas, managing editor TRUSSVILLE The Trussville City Council honored the Hewitt-Trussville High School Girls Basketball Team with a proclamation during its regular meeting on Tuesday, March 13, 2021. The Lady Huskies finished their 2020-21 season with a school-best 29-5 record. Coaches and players from the team were invited to the council meeting Tuesday night to hear the reading of the proclamation. The team made it all the way to the state championship, senior guard Amiya Payne earned the Alabama Sports Writers Association 1 st Team All-State Honors, among others, and several other players including freshman guard Jordan Hunter and sophomore guard April Hooks were also named in the proclamation for their many accomplishments as athletes.

Trussville Council appoints new TCS Board of Education member; hires longtime volunteer firefighter

By Erica Thomas, managing editor TRUSSVILLE The Trussville City Council met for a joint workshop and regular meeting on Tuesday, March 9, 2021. During the meeting, a new school board member was appointed, the city approved improvements on Highway 11, and several other measures were approved. BOE MEMBER APPOINTMENT As part of the consent agenda, the council approved to appoint Sherrye Tolbert to the City Board of Education. Tolbert will replace Stan Garrett, whose term expires in May 2021. The appointment came after a new selection process led by Councilor Lisa Bright. A five-member committee, which consists of two city council members (Bright and Alan Taylor), Mayor Buddy Choat, City HR Director Mandy Dixon, and BOE President Kathy Brown, reviewed applications. The committee selected the top two candidates and shared information with council members. Council members then gave their preference to the mayor and the candidate with the most preferences, Tolbert, was put on the agen

Trussville attorney Bill Bright shares passion while advocating for others

Beginning his legal career in 1979 with the Alabama Attorney General’s office, Bright served under Attorney General Bill Baxley advising and representing the Alabama legislature, state agencies, and advocating as the people’s attorney for the citizens of Alabama. Bright graduated from Auburn University and received his juris doctorate degree from Birmingham School of Law while working for the Alabama Attorney General’s office. “I was introduced to law when I was a kid,” said Bright. “My scoutmaster was an attorney and he led me in that direction. I admired him greatly and ultimately clerked for him.”
