Vandalism forces Duluth to reopen part of Skyline Parkway to cars early
The roadway has been closed since the fall to give pedestrians and bicyclists more space.

In this is why we can t have nice things news, a portion of Skyline Parkway in Duluth has reopened to vehicles earlier than planned after continued vandalism.
West Skyline Parkway and Hank Jensen Drive from Two Ponds to Enger Park Golf Course were supposed to remain closed until June 1 as a way to give pedestrians and bicyclists more space.
But due to continued issues of barricades and sandbags being thrown off of Skyline Parkway, the City has made the decision to reopen this portion of Skyline ahead of the June 1 reopening, the city said in a news release.

Additionally, I believe the roadway decreases public safety.

As a homeowner for 20 years in Lincoln Park and a heavy park user, I failed to understand Scott Marek’s desire to keep open Lincoln Park Drive, as he expressed in the Jan. 21 story, “Duluth revises plans for Lincoln Park after historical concerns raised.”
Perhaps if he spent more time at his vacation home in Duluth, he d be as frustrated as I am with the behaviors the roadway invites. The dumping of furniture, TVs, and tires is common when the road is open. I took a picture of discarded items and trash while walking on Lincoln Park Drive the week of Jan. 18, intending to share it with city councilors, before reading about Marek s uninformed efforts.
