It’s no secret that carmakers at times take design inspiration from their competitor’s models for their own models, with some inspiration down to a partnership between carmakers where a model is rebadged. But Great Wall Motors’ sub-brand, Ora, certainly raised eyebrows at Auto Shanghai 2021 with the Lightning Cat And Punk Cat EVs. The reason for that is, both EVs look like knockoff models of some well known Volkswagens and Porsches. Knockoffs aside, both models have differing views from our side. Here’s all about them:

Chinese electric car company Ora has debuted a new model at the Shanghai Auto Show that features the design of the original VW Beetle, only this time with four doors. (Ora)
The Punk Cat is set to go on sale later this year, according to local media, but full details on its powertrain have not been revealed.
The show car features a retro interior elaborately trimmed in red, white and green with gold accents. A digital gauge cluster and large central display are the most obvious nods to the 21st century.

Cast your mind back to last week, when images of a new electric car that looked totally like a Beetle surfaced from China.
Well, that car has been officially unveiled at Auto Shanghai, and itâs great. Itâs a four-door electric hatchback from Chinese EV brand Ora. It has a name now too: itâs called the Punk Cat. Maybe they should have called it the Copy Cat â oh meow!
