Ministry continues to address issues affecting lifeguards Port of Spain: Over the past several months meetings have been held between senior management of the Ministry of National Security and the Lifeguard Services Division, aimed at bringing about reasonable and cost-effective resolutions to matters affecting our nation’s lifeguards. The Ministry continues to work with the Lifeguard Services Division in order to provide them with the requisite capacity and capability, to keep our country’s beaches safe for beachgoers and sea bathers alike. To date the Ministry has: Begun the procurement process to repair the Lifeguard Facilities Buildings and Towers at Mayaro, Toco, Salybia and Quinam, which fall under the purview of the Ministry of National Security.

Honolulu Ocean Safety is looking to hire some new lifeguards. They’re holding lifeguard tryouts on Feb. 26 and 27 at Ala Moana Beach Park. Aspiring lifeguards must complete three physical tests including a 1,000-yard run and swim in under 25 minutes; a run-swim-run distance of 100 yards each in under 3 minutes; and a 400-yard rescue board paddle in under 4 minutes. Applicants must also have a High School diploma, or GED, and have enrolled in at least one prior medical emergency training class.
