Rutherford County Sheriff's Deputy Earns NAACP Hero Award

A Rutherford County Sheriff’s deputy who saved a gunshot victim’s life was honored Saturday by the Murfreesboro Branch of the NAACP. Deputy Nathan Smith earned the Jerry Anderson Hero Award during the NAACP’s annual Martin Luther King Jr. Breakfast. Jerry Anderson was a former NFL football player from Murfreesboro. He sacrificed his life while saving two boys from drowning May 27, 1989 in Stones River near Warrior Drive. Smith was parked August 14th at the Handlebars bar .

Exchange Club Officer of the Year for the Sheriff's Office

(Rutherford County, Tenn.) Deputy Nathan Smith was honored Wednesday as the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office’s Officer of the Year for the Exchange Club. Club President Melissa Wright presented the award during the Exchange Club meeting. Smith earned the award for saving the life of a gunshot wound victim Aug. 14 at Handlebars bar on East Main Street. He was parked near the bar when he heard people arguing outside. As he approached the scene, he heard five muzzle flashes .

Man pinned to tree by SUV, hit twice, driver charged with attempted murder

CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – A Clarksville woman was arrested and charged with attempted murder after allegedly pinning a man to a tree with an SUV twice in April, leaving him severely injured. The suspect, 27-year-old Dawn Boksa, was arrested Wednesday. According to court records obtained by Clarksville Now, two people witnessed the incident and told police they first saw the victim walking toward Orleans Drive and Dupuis Drive in the early morning on April 18. A few minutes later, the witnesses saw an SUV traveling at a high rate of speed toward the intersection. The SUV went through a fence and a wooded area to intentionally strike the victim, pinning him to a tree, they said. The SUV then reversed and struck the victim a second time.
