would support the package that the house has been proposing. ultimately you d have to think the white house would want to avoid a government shut down on the one-year anniversary of trump s inauguration, which would not be a great narrative for the administration heading into next week. shepard: he s very good at controlling the narrative. rarely you see a president better at it. you wonder though history says it will be very hard to blame this on the democrats, you wonder if he couldn t just get it done. that s right. you have republicans in control of everything. you pointed to the historical precedent for that at the top. it s interesting to see what happens if there is a government shut down. does that make like everybody harder for republicans as they prepare for the tough 2018 mid-terms. shepard: and does it make life tough for democrats. they think it s smooth sailing toward a 2018 wave.

so one of the things we can do as cyberattack goes both ways, i very much hope and i suspect that the nsa is looking into what it can do. retaliatory or a counter, sort of? if there were a way to shut down the unit in the north korean military that does this, remember, the problem in north korea is 12 people have computers. but those 11 of those 12 are engaging in the cyberattack. that s an 1800-man unit in the north korean military that must be connected to the world possibly through chinese servers. we ll have to have a very serious conversation with beijing and say you ve got to let us do this and assist us in doing this. otherwise we will you know there are things we can do that will make china s life tough. the second story i think longer-term is cuba. if this becomes an opening, if this has a snowball effect, you see the stories in the the new k times about american companies
will they be able to do it quickly enough? what s your sense. they are in the process of drawing down the embassy so by the time decision is made to evacuate the embassy, only a few people there, just the essential. other people have been moved to jordan, safer areas of iraq so there will be less numbers and when the decision is made they will do it before they are facing an innent threat. i don t say that baghdad is under imminent threat right now so i don t see the evacuation of the embassy in the next day or so. it s interesting that part of the threat is articulated as, well, they are not going to overtake baghdad, this isis militia, but they can make life tough, bombs and stuff like that, like that isn t going on right now. that s the reality anyway? it s been going on for years, the sunni/shiia divide again. inside the city of baghdad you actually find neighborhoods that are mixed, and you don t see this sunni/shiia animosity we see in the rest of the country. rest of the c
