On a day where a modest crowd was finally permitted back at Flemington on Saturday for the first time since early March, the Victoria Racing Club (VRC) has hailed the pandemic-hit Melbourne Cup carnival a success on numerous levels.
The VRC claimed the Melbourne Cup carnival had underscored its position as Australia’s premier racing event despite their being no crowds to watch the action for the first time in its 160-year history.
The club, which had previously announced that wagering on Cup week increased six per cent on last year and was an all-time record, reported a 16.9 per cent increase in engagement across all media platforms to 6.14 million during Cup week.
