The Sussex County Bird Club will meet Sunday, May 16. May 5, 2021
Sussex County Bird Club is pleased to have Michael Moore, president of the Delaware Ornithological Society, speaking for the virtual May meeting. Since becoming the eBird reviewer for Sussex County, Moore has learned how eBird works from the reviewer’s side. Moore will share examples of how eBird is used for scientific research, and he will explain how the review process ensures the quality of data shared with scientists.
He will also answer common questions like: What does an eBird reviewer do? Why was my record flagged? Why are some common birds flagged as rare? What should I do when a record is flagged? Why did I get an email from the reviewer? What does it mean if the reviewer Unconfirms my sighting? You do not have to be an active eBirder to appreciate the data and learn more about it.
A free, intensive Shakespeare acting course for high school students will be offered by the Lewes Public Library Shakespeare Festival and Spoken Word Society on Aug. 7-26.
Master teachers and professional actors James Keegan and Sadie Andros will lead students in 30 hours of training in text work, scansion (rhythm of verse), scene study, interactive character development, and performance preparation, culminating in a public master class.
âStudents who participate in the intensive will be empowered with knowledge about Shakespeareâs life and times that will help them to more easily comprehend and analyze the challenging diction and syntax of Shakespeareâs plays. This intensive aims to be a stimulating, inspiring and rigorous exploration of Shakespeare and his work that empowers young actors with the unique skills of Shakespearean style,â said Andros.

Lewes’ parking meter season is set to begin at 9 a.m., Saturday, May 1.
Unlike last summer, free morning parking will not be offered in the downtown area. Mayor and city council had eliminated morning metered parking hours last year to encourage people to patronize struggling small businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic. In consultation with the business community, officials determined free parking, although appreciated, did not have a large impact.
Downtown parking remains at $1 per hour, with meter hours running from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Parking is limited to three hours in regularly designated parking spaces. Other time limits are clearly marked with signs.
