Nickerson man injured in crash that was not found for several hours
Reno County Sheriff’s investigators believe a Nickerson man injured in a single-vehicle crash may have lain outside his vehicle for nearly 12 hours before the wreck was noticed by a passerby Monday morning.
Deputies, fire and EMS were dispatched about 7:50 a.m. Monday to the U.S. 50/K14 west junction for a report of an injury accident.
Arriving deputies found a red 2013 Chevy Blazer about 150 feet off the roadway in a tree row, and the driver, Scott Chapman, 44, of Nickerson, laying in the grass behind the vehicle.
It was determined Scott left the roadway to the left, overcorrected, and then went off the road to the right and down the embankment. The vehicle rolled at least two times and Chapman was ejected.
Two people were injured when their motorcycles collided on a rural Reno County Road Wednesday night, the Reno County Sheriff’s Office reported.
Deputies dispatched to the area of Haven and Trail West roads just after 10 p.m. on the injury accident found Devyn Yost, 15, of Bentley, and Morgan Leid, 21, of Halstead had been riding motorcycles northbound on Haven Road when they collided.
Reno County and Haven EMS transported both to Wesley Medical Center for non-life-threatening injuries, Leid with a broken leg and Yost primarily with “road rash,” said Sheriff’s Capt. Levi Blumanhourst
Both were wearing helmets. The accident remains under investigation.

The Reno County Commission approved the appointment Tuesday of a new County Planning Commission member, as well as the purchase of three vehicles for the sheriff’s department.
The commission also welcomed its newest member, Daniel Friesen, of Buhler, and quickly appointed him as vice chairman of the board during the annual board reorganization.
Planning appointment
Jack Martin, 68, who lives just south of 56th Avenue along Old K-61 highway, was appointed to the planning commission for a three-year term ending in December 2023. Martin fills the seat vacated late last year by Mary Lynn Baker, who resigned.
