things the international community has said are not okay. they need to be acted against, but this president s go-to is tariffs in massive ways. you were talking a minute ago about possible tariffs against french wine. if you haven t had a tariff leveed is it like am an ally? the question is is this helping us, are we going to be in better shape because of it. what was shocking about the president s tweets is he said, i hereby order all american companies to move away from china. there s something i think in most americans unless they re in the military possibly that when you hear i hereby order, you kind of bristle against that. the president s. tweeting from the iron throne. i think that is the nickname on air force one. and now my parents are changing the channel, sorry. but there is this sense that this hasn t been done before, is
in the meantime, they re trying to ensure they don t sort of poke the bear and upset donald trump to the point where he lashes out more at them. i think the message for the last 2 1/2 years of his presidency has been very very clear. he h he has bashed democratic allies, and refused to criticize the abuser regimes on the planet. the language he uses for putin or kim jong un is language democrats and republicans would use for france, the uk, canada, mexico, et cetera. when you look at the statements, it s not a subjective thing. you cannot find the language in the same way and the cryiticism that trump has leveed against the uk as you would against kim jong un. i think the message is clear, and i think it s hurting our relationship with allies because they want us to be a leader of these values. let me ask you, when we spoke
institution called deutsche bank. they expressed two areas of interest, one is the bank s history of doing hundreds of millions of dollars worth of business with president trump even after all other major lenders had sworn him off. the secondary area is the ad mitt admitted involvement. ten days after president trump was sworn in, hit with a $425 million fine for its role in a multi billion-dollar russian money laundering scheme that they ran out of several of the b bank s offices. a $425 million fine was not l leveed by that. it was extracted from deutsche bank by new york state. by a powerful agency in new york state called the department of financial services. department of financial services is essentially the regulator of the banking and finance and
journalists two years in a row with at least 73 journalists behind bars last year. and i think that is one reason that we are deeply concerned about what apparently happened in turkey to the saudi journalist and are calling for an independent u.n. investigation as well as for president trump to certify the global magnitsky act which calls for the potential for sanctions to be leveed against those responsible. i know your lenls is focused on countries overseas where the threat to journalists can be deadly, and we have seen that in the last week with the khashoggi story, but does your organization ever turn your lens to the u.s., just to get an answer to the question as to whether the president s public and frequent public attacks on journalists have led to an increase in threats against journalists here or acts of violence? we do. in fact, we split our americas program into a north and a
