The
Samoa Observer reported the latest batch of vaccines arrived last week as part of the Australian government-led distribution of 15 million doses across the Pacific.
Another 10,000 doses are expected to arrive by the end of the week.
The Health Ministry said 10,189 people have now been fully vaccinated against covid while 53,230 have only had their first doses.

It also said that 43.7 percent of the eligible population have received their first injection but only 8.4 percent have been fully immunized.
The MOH is aiming to vaccinate 90 percent of the eligible population and is also working closely with other Government agencies in monitoring arrivals and departures from our ports and national airport to keep Samoa safe from the virus.
Region rejects coral critical habitat designation

Guam, American Samoa and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands oppose the coral critical habitat designation process initiated by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and National Marine Fisheries Services.
The critical habitat designation, according to GovGuam, will designate Guam’s shores, excluding Department of Defense-managed shores, as coral critical habitats.
“After substantial discussion with our team of experts, it is clear that this proposed rule was made without the best scientific data available, and of even greater concern, made without any input from or consideration of local regulatory agencies, said Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero.

The American Samoa government is working with StarKist Samoa to ease the critical worker shortage at the cannery.
Starkist is the territory s largest private employer, and the worker shortage is impacting the company s ability to keep up with global demand.
Our correspondent said StarKist Samoa had faced a shortage of workers, especially fish cleaners since mid 2020, and it just got worse at the beginning of this year.
StarKist Samoa last week launched a new advertising campaign saying that its hiring fish cleaners and special skilled workers.
The advertisement also said in Samoan that if the person s Immigration ID had expired StarKist would work with the American Samoa Immigration Office on this issue.
