- Payton Tidd (1-3) drew the loss, yielding three runs (two earned) on seven hits, walking one and fanning three in 6 1/3 innings. - Amber Bishop-Riley went 3-for-4 with a double, homer, two RBI and two runs scored for the game. Autumn Bishop batted 1-for-4 and scored one run.
Holloway Marks Career-High 13 Strikeouts, Irish Go 1-1 on Day One of Liberty Classic
LYNCHBURG, Virginia Notre Dame Softball (4-5) split opening day of the Liberty Classic, taking an 8-2 morning win over Villanova before suffering a final-inning loss to RV Liberty (2-3). Senior pitcher Alexis Holloway (3-2) earned the win vs. Villanova with 13 strikeouts, a career-best, while junior pitcher Payton Tidd (1-3) shouldered the loss to Liberty.
Holloway was the player of the day for the Irish, as she allowed just two runs in 6.1 innings during her 13-strikeout campaign vs. Villanova. Her 13 K on the day are the most by any ACC pitcher in a single game this season. Her previous strikeout high was 12, which came from her first-ever game in an Irish uniform in 2018 (Feb. 9 vs. Seattle at the Kajikawa Classic in Tempe, Arizona).

MONTGOMERY, Alabama RV Notre Dame opened the 2021 softball season at Alabama State’s Stinger Classic Saturday with a 1-1 record on the day. First, the Irish blasted to a 9-0 win over North Alabama, and battled with No. 8 Alabama through five innings until the Tide opened it up to end it 0-10.
Junior outfielder Emma Clark wrote her name in the history books against North Alabama, stealing four bases to match a single-game program record. She joined Ruth Kmak as the only two players in Irish history to steal four bases in a game. Kmak’s record came vs. Loyola-Chicago (April 16, 1990). Clark batted 1.000 in her three at-bats, also notching an RBI.
