ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) – A position of prestige for State Senator Tom O’Mara.
O’Mara’s been appointed ranking republican for the legislature’s finance committee. In the role, he’ll oversee budgets and spending for the numerous departments of state government.
“It’s probably the most important committee in the state legislature because it deals with all the finances, all the spending, all the revenue in New York. It has a significant role in the budget process throughout the first half of the legislative session each year,” said said Sen. O’Mara, (R), NYS Senate 58th District.

UTICA, NY – In a letter to New York State Senate Minority Leader Rob Ortt, state Sen. Joseph Griffo, R-I-C-Rome, announced that he would be relinquishing the title of Deputy Minority Leader upon the completion of this year’s term.
“We are immensely grateful for Sen. Griffo’s dedication to the Conference and passion for his role, and the countless hours he spent leading our senators on the floor,”
Minority Leader Ortt said. “We appreciate his vast knowledge of the Senate and its parliamentary procedures, which he seamlessly took us through each session day. Sen. Griffo will still play an integral role in our leadership team as we move ahead, and we thank him for his commitment to this Conference.”
Griffo To Give Up Senate Leadership Position
State Senator Joseph Griffo has announced that he will be giving up the title of Deputy Minority Leader upon the completion of this year’s term.
In a letter to State Senator Minority Leader Robert Ortt, Griffo says he’s made the decision to not seek Republican Conference leadership.
Ortt says Griffo will still play an integral role in the Republican leadership team.

At the time I made the decision to not seek Conference leadership, I also began to assess my current professional roles and responsibilities, as well as my personal obligations. Accordingly, I have made the decision to relinquish the title of Deputy Minority Leader upon the completion of this term.
