Today, Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced that she will step down as Speaker of the House, and Leader Steny Hoyer will step down as U.S. House Majority Leader in the 118th Congress. After the announcement, Earthjustice President Abigail Dillen issued the following statement:

The Human Rights Campaign (HRC), the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ+) civil rights organization, responded to the announcement of U.S. House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer’s plan to not seek reelection to congressional leadership, commending his longtime work in advancing the rights of LGBTQ+ Americans and other marginalized communities as a stalwart public servant.
