THE developer behind the stalled George Best Hotel project in Belfast is still under active investigation by the Department for the Economy over his conduct as director in the lead up to the company falling into administration.
It comes as a number of bedroom investors, who contributed around £4.1 million to the hotel in the Scottish Mutual Building, announced they are backing Lawrence Kenwright’s efforts to regain control of the Belfast city centre scheme.
Administrators were appointed to Bedford Hotel Ltd in April 2020 after an application by finance firm Lyell Trading, who were owed £7.2 million by the company at the time.

The Shankly Hotel has been put up for sale after the Signature Living venue fell into administration last year.
Signature Living s hotel - one of the city s most well known and a tribute to LFC great Bill Shankly - is now on the market after the pandemic caused difficulties for the UK s hospitality operators including Lawrence Kenwright s firm. Signature Shankly Ltd - the firm holding the leasehold interest of the Victoria Street building fell into administration last year as it and other Signature Living businesses struggled to cope with the effects of Covid.

A man who grew up in the care system and became involved in crime has launched a podcast to try and change attitudes.

Lawrence Kenwright, the owner of the historic country house which he restored and opened as a hotel, is inviting people to attend. Rainhill Hall is a Grade II listed building, which was once the home of a princess and in December became the latest hotel in Signature Living’s portfolio. Rainhill Hall It briefly opened as a hotel and was immediately full before the UK was hit with a third lockdown in January. Ahead of the latest easing of restrictions on Monday, April 12, Signature Living is opening outside areas for families to enjoy, including a new space for outside casual dining, nestled between the main house and the chapel.
