how do we get the answer? part of the problem is mixture of the law enforcement. before 9/11 the f.b.i. did law enforcement and the n.s.a. did intelligence in the u.s. c.i.a. did intelligence outside the u.s. now it s a mixture. so now the f.b.i. by now i mean after 9/11 will use intelligence tools, which are easy to acquire and easier to use than law enforcement tools for law enforcement. so even though these people, congressman nunes and his colleagues are on intelligence committee they are looking for the law enforcement documents used to commence the investigation. what can t they get? well, the law says they can t get. they can t get documents to evidence what was given to a grand jury. that is very clear. they can t get documents that evidence impressions and thoughts and strategies of f.b.i. agents and federal prosecutors. they can t get documents that were generated by confidential sources. that is about two-third of
there is a mountain of evidence now of obstruction of justice. there s evidence that the president has repeatedly tried to interfere with the investigation, tried to block it, tried to stop it, telling comey to drop the investigation of flynn, trying to get officials to interfere with the fbi investigation, firing james comey. now this story with jeff sessions. and the question always has been his intent. does he have a corrupt intent, which is required under the obstruction of justice statute, and here the sessions, the news story about sessions adds to that because it shows that, again, how trump looks at this is that the justice department should be loyal to his political interests, and that they should protect him as the president and go after his enemies with their law enforcement tools. if that s not corrupt intent, i

important to you for a long time. we discussed it in our meeting. as we discussed then, i think this is one of the most difficult issues facing the country. there s a balance, obviously, that has to be struck between the importance of encryption, which i think we can all respect, when there s so many threats to our systems and the importance of giving law enforcement tools they immediate to keep us safe. i don t know as an outsider and nominee before this committee what the solution is. i do know we have to find a solution and my experience in trying to find solutions is that it s more productive for people to work together than to be pointing fingers blaming each other. that s the approach i have tried to take to almost every problem i have tackled. that s the approach i would want to take here in working with this committee, with the private sector. one advantage having been in the private sector is that i think i know how to talk to the private sector. i would look for ways to try t
