israel s supreme court of the power to overturn government actions and appointments that it deems unreasonable. the controversial law has drawn concern over what it will mean in a system where the supreme court has often acted as a the only check on unjust rule by a majority. yesterday s vote capped a months long process that drew tens of thousands of protesters to the streets and sparked intense debate within the israeli parliament. even as the vote was going on, police were dealing with protesters outside the parliament building yesterday. tens of thousands marched from tel aviv to jerusalem over the weekend in protest of the proposed law change. the scenes inside were also tense. the measure passed by a vote of 64-0 after all the opposition members walked out and did not cast their ballots. joining us now from israel, the jerusalem bureau chief for the
