It s always a good time to make the argument that Phoenix is the best pizza town in America. There’s the diversity of pizza-making traditions every major pizza-making philosophy, from Chicago deep-dish to wood-fired Neapolitan style, is well-represented in the Valley. There is the concentration of talented pizzaioli in the Arizona desert, an unlikely yet fortunate development that has helped Phoenix become a culinary destination for diehard pizza aficionados. And there is the simple fact that it’s become harder and harder to keep track of the ever-expanding roster of great pizzerias around town.

The first few months of the year is prime events season in metro Phoenix, but with COVID-19 doing its best to ruin everything, it can be hard to keep track of what s actually going to take place.

Perhaps the best gluten-free starter in town is the real cornbread with green chile at Chelsea’s Kitchen in Arcadia. It’s made in house, and it’s also pretty popular, so make sure it’s available before you get excited. And if you plan on sticking around, Chelsea’s Kitchen has a gluten-free option for many of its dishes. All you have to do is ask.
For more gluten-free bread a little further north, Tonto Bar & Grill in Cave Creek offers a gluten-free bread basket made of quinoa, flax, sunflower, and sesame seed.

Anhelo Restaurant 628 East Adams Street For years, the Silva House operated as the Rose & Crown an English pub and haven for college students till its closing in 2018. By spring 2019, the house became Anhelo Restaurant. This upscale dinner spot with a soft, modern interior is is where pop-up chef Ivan Jacobo is operating in Historic Heritage Square. The menu of contemporary American fare offers Hudson Valley Foie Gras to black truffle gnocchi and scallops, so this may be more of a special occasion place.

Ronnie’s Café 4323 West Cactus Road, Glendale Since 2006, Ronnie’s Cafe has been serving hot breakfast and quick lunches to ASU West students and Glendale residents alike. This is where you’ll find first meal staples like eggs, pancakes, omelets, and waffles in the type of atmosphere that’ll top off your coffee before you ask. Also on the menu are salads, sandwiches, burgers, and vegetarian options. Best thing about this place? It’s open from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily perfect for stopping in after that all-nighter.
