Amid a surge of migrants, the number of homeless families in Massachusetts’ emergency shelter system hit a state-imposed limit Thursday, officials said. Governor Maura Healey has said the program is running out of space, personnel, and money.
State officials said they plan to begin pushing those seeking emergency shelter to a waiting list once the system reaches 7,500 families, which they warn could happen “imminently.” The state had previously said they planned to implement a cap on the system by Wednesday.
