I am very pleased to welcome you to this Evenings Program organized by the ajc belford institute for latino and latina American Affairs on the economics of Immigration Reform reform now. And this could not be a more timely coming together and discussion. I cannot say whether it was on the front page or not, but the wall street journal ran aa major story on the thorny economics of ilLegal Immigration. That story says, few issues in the president ial campaign are more explosive than whether and how much to crackdown on ilLegal Immigration, which some in particular blame for americas economic woes. And so this is a timely issue not only because of the campaigns but because it has been a timely issue for too many years. As many of us struggle to bring about reform of our very broken immigration system, and we will hear about the economics of Immigration Reform.
Already at the bottom. Have we done things to make it more difficult . Weve got look, if people want to vote i believe aside from the online and all that stuff, lets go back, i dont know a lot of folks that have more than two weeks to vote a different mobile voting sites, sites, different locations whether it is the school, church, whatever. We are given two weeks. Can you give more . Absolutely. That increase Voter Participation . I dont know. I think when that was implemented we will get a bigger Voter Participation. Today 50 percent of all those that are cast i done during the early vote. I have not seen the numbers go up significantly. They are about the same. They voting ethical stay the same. There is a generational gap between 1st and 2nd time voters and the parents. If your parents are religious not going to church, theres, is a strong likelihood that your going to go to church. That kind of gives me the impetus to go undeveloped that voting is. Im going to go out that way im no

First of all, current authorization runs out november 20, so were trying to get a bill passed by thanksgiving. However they note theres a potential shortfall in the trust fund around the end of november

Ran, you doackson not have a lot of people with the career like me, that was a high turnout. What i make it . It . Ould i make sets out the should look at it. We should look at other places that may be unique to texas to encourage more people to participate who ought to be embarrassed because so few people are participating in the state. We talked about 2016, but i want to talk about 2018 because you know that latinos and minorities turnout in bigger numbers and a president ial year, and that we have the Gubernatorial Election and turnout is terrible. Looking back at 2014, governor abbott, you won the portion of the latino vote but there was a low turnout. What is it going to take to get latinos to vote in 2018 and any nonpresident ial year . Joq it take a walking aquin or Julian Castro . I think it takes all hands on deck. Bottom line, connection to the voters. Showed very
