With the federal eviction moratorium ending Saturday, the Story County Board of Supervisors approved $200,000 in funding for emergency rent and utility assistance at its meeting Tuesday.
The funds will be made available to The Bridge Home, Good Neighbor Emergency Assistance and The Salvation Army, which are partner agencies of the Story County Centralized Intake program. Residents can apply for assistance from the programs with one application.
The need for affordable housing in Story County existed before the pandemic, vice chair Latifah Faisal said in a news release. In a recent county housing study, 80% of respondents said there are not enough rental units available for less than $500 a month. Additionally, just over 30% of multi-generational families and just under 30% of seasonal workers feel that their household needs are being met, the study found.
