Sparkman and the Twins - Minnesota Twins - Articles - Homepage

Dec 23 2020 10:00 AM | Cody Pirkl in Minnesota Twins The Twins announced the signing of Glenn Sparkman this week. While it’s far from an exciting signing, it’s one that raised my eyebrow for more reasons than just the whiff rate on his slider. What if I told you the lifelong Royal had ties to several of the Twins top pitching prospects? Image courtesy of © Jesse Johnson - USA TODAY Sports Years ago a young Glenn Sparkman was dominating the Minor Leagues. This drew the excitement of a baseball fan by the name of Connor Kurcon who later found out that several things were amiss in the numbers Sparkman was accumulating. He was much older than the competition, several of his ratios were unsustainable and his outlook as a starter was being boosted by numbers accumulated in relief outings.

Using History to Decipher Who the Twins Will Sign This Offseason - Minnesota Twins - Articles - Homepage

Dec 21 2020 08:30 PM | Matthew Taylor in Minnesota Twins Since joining the Minnesota Twins after the 2016 season, Derek Falvey and the Twins front office have signed 22 MLB free agents. What can those 22 prior free agency signings tell us about who the Minnesota Twins might sign this offseason? Image courtesy of © Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports While it’s fun to speculate on which free agents we think the Minnesota Twins should sign this offseason, it might be more worthwhile to use recent history as an indicator of who the Minnesota Twins are most likely to sign. To do this, we will take a look back at the prior four offseasons for the Twins under the Derek Falvey regime and the archetypes of players that Falvey & company have signed. Then using that history, we can see which types of players in this free agency class match that archetype and could be a realistic free agent for the Twins this offseason.

Reacting to Twins Blockbuster Trade Speculation - Minnesota Twins - Articles - Homepage

Dec 19 2020 09:00 PM | Lucas Seehafer PT in Minnesota Twins The Athletic’s intrepid reporter Ken Rosenthal sent the imaginations of trade enthusiasts myself a representative of the club aflurry when he speculated in his Friday column that the Minnesota Twins may try to bring in a shortstop this offseason. Image courtesy of © Neville E. Guard | 2020 Sep 22 This idea isn’t necessarily unique other Twins reporters and bloggers have brought this up as well and he ultimately concluded that former Oakland Athletic Marcus Semien or Twins killer Didi Gregorius probably make the most sense, but he also mentioned two very intriguing potential trade targets: Francisco Lindor and Trevor Story.

Offseason Worries - Minnesota Twins - Articles - Homepage

Dec 19 2020 08:00 PM | Cody Pirkl in Minnesota Twins The Twins have played the free agency game quite well in recent years as evidenced by their in season success. This offseason is already looking a bit different however, and it may take some aggressiveness to come out successfully on the other side. Image courtesy of © Brad Rempel-USA TODAY Sports 2020 was the weirdest season of baseball we’ve ever seen and it’s led into what may be one of the weirder offseasons. So many questions remain including whether the NL will again adopt the DH and how many games will be played in the regular season. Unfortunately as players search for jobs and teams look to fill their openings, the uncertainties are clearly slowing the market. One change teams are expecting to see however is the expanded playoff format, and this expectation may be having early effects on the market that the Twins should keep an eye on.

Choose Your Own Path: 5 Ways for the 2021 Minnesota Twins to Spend their Remaining $40M - Minnesota Twins - Articles - Homepage

Dec 17 2020 09:00 PM | Matthew Taylor in Minnesota Twins While free agency has been slow-moving for the Minnesota Twins to begin the 2020 offseason, the Twins have plenty of moves yet to make and plenty of funds yet to spend. How the Twins will allocate those funds, though, is another question. Image courtesy of © Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports Now that the team option and arbitration deadlines have passed, the Minnesota Twins payroll picture has become much clearer. Currently, the Minnesota Twins have ~$84.5M guaranteed to 14 of its players. That leaves anywhere from $5M to $65M in room for Derek Falvey to go out and sign free agents. Where exactly the Minnesota Twins will land in that range of offseason spending is impossible to know for sure, but scaling back the payroll 10% to a $125M opening day payroll in 2021 remains the most likely path. Could the Twins surprise fans and take advantage of their open window by outspending rival teams? Absolutel
