First reading approved for new short-term rental ordinance in Detroit Lakes; licensing could begin in 2023

Members of the Detroit Lakes City Council unanimously voted to adopt first reading of a new short-term rental ordinance during their Nov. 7 meeting. If the ordinance passes a second vote in December, city-issued licenses will be required for property owners in order to list their units for a short-term rental of less than 30 consecutive days. The license must be renewed annually and would include a fee of $350.

Members of the Detroit Lakes Planning Commission recommended approval of the city's new annexation plan during their most recent meeting on Oct. 27. The plan covers the city's policy, procedures and timeline for future annexations through 2042.

Redevelopment plans for Detroit Lakes' north side are on hold

The Detroit Lakes Development Authority took no action at its April 5 meeting on the proposed redevelopment north of Highway 10, east of Washington Avenue. The authority made an unsuccessful offer to purchase the Goodin Company property on Davis Avenue, and was also unsuccessful in its request for a Right of First Refusal agreement with Becker County for the highway department complex in that area.
