During the progress review meeting of new airports in the state, Minister of Large Industries and Infrastructure Development, MB Patil, announced that the Shivamogga airport has received permission to commence operations from August 11. To ensure readiness, he instructed officials to complete all pending work including all amenities in place by the end of July. Patil stated, “Ambulance and other vehicles need to be deployed, and a coffee cafe needs to be opened. Additionally, technical and non-technical staff need to be appointed. All these requirements must be fulfilled by July 20.”

The newly-constructed airport that has a lotus-shaped terminal was inaugurated by Prime Minister Modi on February 27 ahead of the May Assembly elections in Karnataka.
