The federal government will spend $6.1 million to bring high-speed internet to underserved residents of 15 communities in rural Eastern and Central Ontario, including two townships in Leeds and Grenville.
Maryam Monsef, minister in charge of rural economic development, said the money will go to “shovel-ready” projects by internet companies that can connect 2,374 homes to high-speed by the end of the year.

Monsef said the money, provided under the Rapid Response Stream of the Universal Broadband Fund, is designed to fund rural projects that could be done quickly, and it is separate from the proposal from the Eastern Ontario Regional Network (EORN) that would cover all of the region.
