Developer plans environmentally focused project in Texas Hill Country

A Dallas entrepreneur says he plans to build what he s calling an environmentally friendly development on 1,400 acres in the Texas Hill Country, with an aim toward preserving much of the land for future generations. The development, called Mirasol Springs, is being proposed by Dallas billionaire Steve Winn. It is planned for land along Hamilton Pool Road, where it meets the Pedernales River. The property straddles Travis and Hays counties. Plans call for 55 lots for custom homes, a 70-room boutique hotel by Auberge Resorts Collection and a field station for biodiversity research to be operated by the University of Texas. Construction on the project is expected to begin in the summer of 2022. If all goes as planned, the development could open in the summer of 2024.

Evolving forecast As of 8 p.m. Sunday, National Weather Service observations at Camp Mabry, site of the Austin s main weather station, continued to report light snow as temperatures sank to 18 degrees. The historic chill also had some bite to it, as north winds of 9 mph included gusts as strong as 29 mph. The wind chill produced a feels like temperature of 7 degrees. Although Austin remains under a winter storm and a wind chill warning until noon Monday, the weather service revised its outlook for Sunday night, instead calling for a low of 9 degrees still a potential daily record. But the wind chill will make the air feel more like 5 degrees below zero.

Traffic control flaggers will be onsite to assist, and vehicles will still be able to cross the bridge. The closures will not affect access to Red Bud Isle Park.   Lane closures will occur from Lake Austin Boulevard to Red Bud Isle Park in eastbound and westbound lanes for the first phase. The westbound lane from Red Bud Isle to Stratford Lane will be closed Feb. 1-5 for phase 2, and a shoulder closure and lane shift is scheduled Feb. 8-11 near Stratford Lane for phase 3.
