Legislators from three political parties last week called for the creation of a climate action law.
More than a dozen members of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), the Taiwan People’s Party (TPP) and the New Power Party expressed support for the law at a news conference at the Legislative Yuan in Taipei.
DPP Legislator Hung Sun-han (洪申翰) said he submitted a draft of a climate action act in December last year that included a goal of reaching net zero emissions by 2050 and setting up a climate change coordination post at the Executive Yuan.

Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) Taipei City Councilor Lo Chih-chiang (羅智強) yesterday apologized for calling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Legislator Rosalia Wu (吳思瑤) “ractopamine pork auntie,” while KMT Culture and Communications Committee director-general Alicia Wang (王育敏) urged the public not to judge politicians based on age or appearance.
“There is no need for people to judge politicians based on age or physical appearance, or to use discriminatory words,” Wang told the launch ceremony of a KMT shop on the e-commerce platform PChome.
“The DPP claims to be a progressive party. Its young members should not use discriminatory language,” Wang said.

Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) Chairman Johnny Chiang (江啟臣) yesterday commended Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) member Fan Kang-hao (范綱皓) for apologizing over his comments on social media regarding the age of KMT Culture and Communications Committee director Alicia Wang (王育敏).
In a Facebook post on Monday that has since been deleted, Fan, who is the director of the DPP’s online community center, asked why the KMT Youth Department had chosen “the already 50-year-old Alicia Wang” to model its new jackets.
